On mornings when you hit the snooze button one too many times, or spend a little too long singing in the shower, you may find yourself needing to shave a few minutes off your makeup routine. And sometimes, you just want a different look to play with. We’ve all been there, but rest assured there is an easy and gorgeous solution.
It’s all about the red lip! A bold red lip in lieu of a heavy eye can be a simple yet stunning way to look polished and fashionable.
To make this look work best, flawless skin is crucial. Spend a few minutes prepping with foundation, concealer & powder to set your face. Fill in sparse eyebrows if need be, and add enough blush so that you don’t look too washed out. You don’t need to apply any eye makeup for this look, as the red lips are your accessory. If your eyes feel too naked, add a swipe of mascara.
Now comes the fun part! Choose a shade of red that you feel comfortable with, yet is still bold enough to make a statement. Select a fun red to compliment your skin tone – if you are on the warm side, stick with golden-based reds, and if your skin has cool undertones, opt for more blue-based shades. Basic, rich red colors are universal if you are having doubts.
I currently enjoy using a rich, vegan red lipstick that I found at Emani Cosmetics.
Set your lips with foundation or concealer to give a blank, unified canvas for your lip color to glide onto. This also helps with the staying power. Depending on the look you are going for, you can keep the color matte by reapplying several times for a full, heavy lip. Alternately, swipe some clear gloss over the red to keep the look light and moist.
Lastly, stick your finger in your mouth and pull it out slowly between your lips to wipe away any excess color that could otherwise end up on your teeth, totally ruining the look and creating potentially embarrassing moments in public!
You are ready to go! Carry the lipstick with you to reapply as needed during the day. Wear it with confidence, and I promise you will start rocking this look on days even when you do have extra time in the morning.
