Since my last post a lot has changed with my health and my career. Where I last left you, I was spending my time between working at a salon and advocating for a safer industry after being affected by formaldehyde poisoning from the Brazilian Blowout. I co-founded Pretty Toxic and things seemed relatively steady aside from the resulting health issues after the chemical exposure.
I left the salon to pursue editorial work, doing hair for photo shoots and events. Freelancing offered a lot of exciting opportunities that left me happy and ready for more. But my health was not improving, and I noticed that my chemical sensitivities were becoming worse. This past spring I developed severe MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitives) which really slowed me down and affected the way I live my life.
Just as I was trying to come to terms with the MCS, I was diagnosed with Lupus (SLE) and Rheumatoid Arthritis in August of this year. Both are autoimmune diseases and both have really affected the quality of my health.
As I am learning to adjust to the changes that have been brought before me, I am also learning a lot about life, perceptions of beauty and the way toxic chemicals affect our health.
I will continue this blog in similar fashion, but gear it even more so towards finding the safest alternatives and approaches to beauty, as well as health. As I am dealing with a complete change, from the personal care products that I use, to hair loss and so much more, I will share with you what I have learned and what I am using on this crazy journey towards wellness.
I hope you continue to join me along the way. Participation is encouraged!
I look forward to sharing with everyone!
